New Year, New Gear!

Well, let me start by saying Happy New Year! 2013 should be an exciting year for tennis, especially for Canadian Tennis. Rackets & Runners will be expecting its shipments of new racquets, shoes, strings and clothing by the end of January through February.  This all coincides with the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year. The latest and greatest technology in racquets this year includes products from Wilson, who is coming out with frames that will definitely make hitting with more spin a reality for those of you who are spin deprived. The frames that include this technology are the Steam 99s and the Steam 105s . The design is to reduce the number of strings in the racket thus opening up the spaces between the strings allowing the ball to grip the string bed better as a result, allowing you to create more spin. In general, almost all manufacturers are leaning towards control, making racquets in varying weights, while maintaining flexibility. This flexibility enables a player to create a longer, faster swing and having confidence that the ball will stay in.  It’s always better to find a racket that accommodates your swing rather than your swing accommodating the racket. With all this technology, the end result is that racquets today are more stable and feel more solid than ever before. Head has also released a new technology called Graphene which is placed in the shaft of the racquet to improve stability and absorption thus enabling them to move the weight of the racquet to the handle and to the head making it more maneuverable and increasing the swing weight. Graphene is the strongest and lightest material in the world.  It is 200 times stronger than steel.  Allowing a redistribution of weight, more kinetic energy can be generated with less effort and more power. More exciting news. The Davis Cup is coming back to Vancouver. It is being held at UBC and takes place February 1st through 3rd with two singles matches on the first day , doubles on day two and the reverse singles on the third day. This is a fantastic opportunity to see world class tennis at its best. Also, you may get a chance to see Milos Raonic wearing his new stuff. He is the first world class player to endorse New Balance clothing and footwear. That will definitely bring New Balance to the fore front in tennis. This is going to be a big year and lets help to make it happen! GO CANADA GO!!!
