3 Tips for the Week Before the Vancouver Marathon

Allison Tai, Clinic CoordinatorAllison Tai, Rackets & Runners run club Coordinator/Coach passes along her final tips for the BMO Vancouver Marathon on Sunday, May 5th. For more information on Allison, please see her  website www.urbanfitnessmovement.com. 1. Do not do anything new. Now is not the time to try new shoes, socks, shorts, or gel flavor. Hopefully you've practiced everything in training, so just stick with what's familiar. 2. Taper. There is no cramming for this test. Your job now is to keep your legs springy and light, not to wear them down. You should be focusing on maintaining a bit of intensity but reduces overall mileage. No strength training, no cross training. 3. Try to get to the expo early and spend your pre-race day relaxing. I like to go for my shakeout run, have a big breakfast and watch running movies (like Run Fat Boy Run or Saint Ralph) the day before while I have a good stretch, hydrate up and eat carbs.
